Being a landowner I am within my rights to stop any and everyone using my land, a tenant farmer has them same rights. Guys Just because a place is fantastic for flying you have no god given right to fly and must obtain permission to be on that land. By reading some of your comments here I am not surprised that farmers are refusing right to fly from their land. Having said that I allow people to fly as long as they respect my property and text me beforehand. Just turning up will result being asked to leave

Awesome pond cruiser! Does position of centre of gravity mater? My concern is the front rising up catching air and flipping over. This Lidl air boat seems so stable. Excellent idea/build BTW. I can see flock of these racing, or doing some shallow water combat manoeuvres.
Yep I have no experience but gated throttle on tx for granddaughter 😂 I recon should do well on beach as well this is all leading down a big rabbit hole .hydrofoil. Hovercraft ,or flying 😂
Good tip. Was think the same: this would make a great platform to experiment with adding a hydrofoil. You do have a most scenic pond/park to experiment.

Very cool project Nick! Your videos are always fun to watch. I'm thinking that I need one of these to take to the beach, plus I could use it here in the winter to skim over the snow. Version 2 perhaps with dual motors and differential thrust?

Good feature of air boats is there is no propellor in the water to get fouled by weed. Bad feature is they are banned at my local model boat club, the health and safety NIMBYs don't like the open air propeller. I was thinking of making a ducted fan version to get around the problem. Nice summer project, thanks.
@@davidpiper3652 thanks it’s coming in next couple weeks from angel wings ducted fan airboat
Im working on a fully 3d printed mini race boat with a 3 inch ducted prop. I will also be developing a "module" to add to a body board with Nick that will have a prop guard
Was going to suggest using a short length of 3-4 inch cardboard tube, or polyvinyl downspout tube to create a guard for a 3-4 inch propeller. It appears Nick and Angel Wings have already thought of even better solutions. :)
Nice!

What was the wind speed. Whatever the reply I bet it was less.than 10mph. Which equals flat calm for the West of Scotland. A few weeks ago the forecast here suggested 5mph onshore winds so me and my flying mate took almost all our Angelwing planes (Pugs, Twistys, Micro Aquilas etc) to our local (not that high) sea dune site. We actually experienced 1 or 2mph on-shore winds on site meaning everything ended up landing on the beach below, shortly after launch.. As a result of a stroke 15 years ago my mobility is compromised so my mate Alan had to do most of the retrieving. At least he got a good athletic workout, even if the day resulted in very little flying. Which is another way of saying we both envy your North of Devon conditions.
@@IainEPaterson hahah max 7mph the paragliders went hence mine stayed in the car 🤪

Nick. Great work by the way, please continue to post. I have a quick question about your Pug build. I recall you mentioning, I'm not sure if it was on this particular video but you said that you planned to color the wings ribs black? Could you tell me what type of finish? Was it paint, market, felt tip... Did it effect the covering adhesion at all? any tips on this would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi nick, since making the video is it still a good tent? The same tent is online 'refurbished' online for £339 instead of her £550 current price. The big question, would you pay the full price for it?
@@HenryLogg cracking mate can’t fault it 😍 I think I would actually
Your aviation-knowledge and decision-making look top-notch. Do your piloting skills benefit from flying rc-models?
@@nickvledder actually yes but other way round I flew Rc gliders as a kid in 70’s then upgraded to hang gliders and bigger stuff
Thi is one of my favorite models ever... I just did the standard build and if you move the cg back a bit it will roll and loop really fast with full throws. I use a 1s 150mah for light winds but it will take a 2s 300mah moved back a bit for ballast. Terrific design by anglewings.
@@michaelwhinnery164 and great in light winds 😍
I had a go at this years ago. My best advice is to make a small profile model (mine was about 8" wing span) and try to get that to glide indoors. You can iterate much faster, and don't need to care about making it look nice. As you've probably worked out, if the CG is in the correct place for the wing, the huge nose makes it unstable in yaw. Canards could work. I don't think clear fins will be enough, as they're too close to the CG. My profile version worked because the flat nose had almost no side area, and I still had to cheat a bit to add fin area at the back. I think you'll have to abandon the idea of an accurate model, and aim for a 'tribute', (maybe it's a later version x-wing). Move the wings forward, and possibly sweep them forward, and make the nose shorter.
@@robinbennett5994 yep spot on mate but fun trying to
I love small slopers. Is it a one-piece wing Nick? I fly with Andy (Angelwings) on Baildon Moor and know his Dad quite well.
@@PHILG2864 yes mate one piece wing
Seem to getting close to achieving longer flight times. (0:52) If added a Tie fighter in chase, (using a clear plastic rod), the X-wing would be sure to escape gravity.
@@AerialWaviator like it very clever
I suspect adding a canard the moving the CG forward will be the only way to get it to go. Ideally the canard would have elevators but maybe the existing elevons will work. Good luck!
@@jetplaneflyer agree but I want x wing glider on the dunes 🤣
Louis Blériot had the right idea with the layout of aircraft. Unusual layouts are to play with and even more fun to watch on RUclips. Good luck, the force will be with you eventually.
